Chola Bronze Lingham

Height- 7 inches Width- 9 inches Depth- 5 inches Weight- 3.9 kg Materials- Chola Lost Wax Process BronzeChola Bronze Lingham
This Metal Craft Chola Bronze Lingham crafted by the Lost Wax Process is a masterpiece meant to be the center piece of your home altar. Linga Purana, the lingam is a complete symbolic representation of the formless Universe Bearer – the oval-shaped stone is the symbol of the Universe, and the bottom base represents the Supreme Power that holds the entire Universe in it. The lingam (the Sanskrit word for 'symbol') is the most definitive image of the Lord Shiva. The lingham is worshipped as Shiva Himself. It is a sign of His transcendental self and his capacity for the creation of life. An aniconic image, it is an abstract expression of the dharmic reverence for life and how it comes about. Shaivites perceive it as a fiery column of light or the axis mundi, which is the bridge between ihloka (current realm of existence) and parlok (the subsequent one). This Metal Craft Bronze lingam is a fine example of this powerful Shaivite symbol. The distinctive stature of this sculpture would add to your space an aura of the otherworldly. The lingams in many Shiva temples around the subcontinent are said to be self-existent (to have emerged naturally out of the ground). Filled with divine power, Shiva-lingam Moorti’s are seen to emerge from a womb chamber where prayers for fecundity are offered by devotees. The same, together with the yoni extension (along the horizontal section), serve as a drain to carry away the libation poured over the lingam. In fact, the Shiva-lingam ensemble expresses the singular togetherness of Shiva with His Parvati. -

Gajasamhara Moorty
₹195,000.00Availability: in stock
Height- 20 inches Width- 14 inches Depth- 9 inches Weight- 14.2 kg Materials- Chola Lost Wax Process BronzeGajasamhara Moorthy
Another excellent bronze sculpture by Metal Craft of Shiva as Gajasamhara murti. Not many would be aware of this unusual and fearsome form of Gajasura Samhara of Lord Shiva. The story of how Shiva came to be known as Krittivaseshwara or Gajasura Samhara comes in the Kurma Purana.. Once an asura (demon) attacked some pious Brahmins who were worshiping Shiva in Varanasi. Siva instantly emerged from the Linga they were worshipping and slew Gajasura. He then flayed his skin and wore it like a cloth. This was a ferocious form of Shiva that scared even his consort Parvati. Notice that the sculpture is framed in an outline resembling an elephant skin. It has an elephant tail on top and two elephant feet dangling around. Shiva is seen eight-armed. He is tearing the elephant apart with his two hands, with his right foot placed on Gajasura ’s elephant head and his left leg folded in a dance-step. Starting on the right side, he holds a cobra, then grasps the elephant skin followed by a shield and Kapaala (bowl fashioned out of human skull). On the left side lower hand he holds his Trishul, sword and a Drammuru drum and the upper hand holds the elephant skin. He wears his hair like a halo and bears a skull with Dhatura flower, crescent moon, and cobra. A beautiful garland of small bells runs around Shiva ’s body. Gajasamhara Shiva is flanked on either side by ganas (retinue of Shiva) that are playing cymbals to the rhythm of Shiva ’s dance. The rectangular base has a historically accurate attachment system which is for display purposes to replicate the original. A true masterpiece, this sculpture is one of its kind. -
Hanuman – 35
₹310,000.00Availability: in stock
Height :35 inches width :11.5 inches depth :11 inches weight :40 kilo Hanuman Conversing One of the most appealing Hindu deities, Hanuman’s bravery, courage, and loyalty throughout the Ramayana epic are renowned. This Hanuman bronze statue is a reproduction of the original 11th century statue which is now possessed by the Metropoliton Museum in New York City. The original has been named by the experts as “Hanuman Conversing” and stands 24” tall. This reproduction is a full 35” and is a striking representation of the revered Hindu deity. Hand crafted from true Panchaloha bronze, 5 metal, this statue had 2 grams of gold and 20 grams of silver added to the molten bronze (Typically Copper, Tin and Zinc) when caste. Standing in a relaxed upright posture Hanuman is depicted in a unique pose. Here, he gestures obeisance to Rama with his raised left hand while engaging in animated discussion with his Lord, possibly about his discovery of Site in Lanka held prisoner by the powerful Ravana. Unlike his typical physical stature portraying himself as a muscular and fierce warrior, in this case he has presented himself to his lord in a modest almost feminine form as another sign of obeisance. The original sculpture was part of an ensemble with Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana at its center. It was included among an assemblage of processional icons kept by Vaishnava temples in South India for festival use. Typical of Chola-period representations, Hanuman has assumed anthropomorphic form, with only his face and tail confirming his monkey identity. The original is one of the finest bronze images of Hanuman to have survived from the Chola kingdom of south India. This reproduction embodies his noble, virtuous character with great sensitivity and to our knowledge is one of the only reproductions to ever have been produced. If it is not the only reproduction to have been produced it is certainly the finest. -

Rishabhavahana Devar
₹175,000.00Availability: in stock
This set, depicting Siva as a peasant and Parvati as the Devi is a detailed copy of the pieces on display in the Thanjavur Art Gallery. The originals are considered superb representations of Siva from the early Cholas in the year 1011 CE. This set is another one of Metal Crafts masterpieces that can bring Chola History and understated elegance into your home without supporting the illegal antique trade. The word Devar refers to the fact that Siva is represented in human form with just two arms. This depiction is the only Chola statue in which Siva is shown in human form. It is also unique in the display of the hair shaped into the form of a turban that is most obvious in the front view. As stated above the two arms indicate that this form of Siva is the human guise of a peasant. The right hand is positioned to rest on the head of his sacred bull (Rishabha/Nandi), which was not found with the originals, while the left hand is in katyavalampita-hasta. With unrivaled grace and dignity Siva, as a peasant stands firm on his left leg, the right leg crossed with toes resting on the ground. The Devi, Parvati, is in every way a fit companion for the aesthetic excellence of Siva. She stands in tribhanga leaning towards Siva with her right hand in kataka and the left hand hanging like a cows tail, govala. Her legs mimic the posture of Siva with a lesser bend of the knee on the right leg. This posture is what differentiates this Parvati form from other standing depictions such as Sivakami. Certainly, any Chola bronze admirer can see the uniqueness of this pair from any other depiction of the heavenly couple and would want them to grace their home.

In this Metal Craft bronze one of the aspects of the Siva Tandava dance sequence is shown in a rarely depicted pose. Thalai Keel Tandav is a transitional dance pose of Nataraj where Shiva’s aspect as a cosmic dancer, is represented in an upside-down position. In Tamil, Thalai means head and Keel means inverted. The 108 katanas - or the key positions - of Tandava, have inspired the well known composite image found at the Nataraja temple of Chidambaram. In this posture both of Sivas legs are in the upright position with toes pointing to the heavens. This gorgeous bronze statue is a typical four-armed depiction of Shiva. The upper right-hand holds a flame similar to the ones on the arch. Fire signifies forces of creation and destruction. The lower right hand is holding Siva erect and crushes the dwarf demon Apasmara the representation of the ego. The left lower hand is in Abhaya mudra. The upper left hand holds the ever-present Damura drum in a gesture called damaru-hasta symbolizing rhythm and movement in time. The ring of flames (prabhamandala) which surrounds the figure is a symbol of the endless cycle of birth and death. It’s a heavy handmade sculpture, weighing over 10 kgs.. Height :19 inches Width :9 inches Depth :6 inches weight :7 kgVishnu the Preserver
This Lord Vishnu Chola Lost Wax Bronze is 2 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 20kg. As with all of our one of a kind Chola Lost Wax Process bronzes the face of this statue is as individually unique. Because Vishnu maintains the cosmic order of the universe or dharma, he is characteristically portrayed standing upright and balanced. While Vishnu has many forms, this four-armed form is most common in the historic record of Antique Chola Lost Wax Bronze Icons as seen in museums and temples throughout India. In his four arms, he holds a Shankha a conch shell (upper left hand), used as a war horn to signal troops and Chakra (disc-upper right hand) are emblems of Vishnu. The Chakra named Sudarshana is a powerful weapon that is time personified and symbolizes dharma. Vishnu is wearing jewels around his neck and a beautiful ornate crown. The fine detail on the crown blends flawlessly all the way around. The crocodile shaped earrings he wears are called Makara Kundala. Notice the small triangular mark near his right shoulder. This mark is called Srivatsa and was inflicted by Shiva’s trident during a duel between Shiva and sage Narayana who was an incarnation of Vishnu. However, Vishnu bears this mark with reverence as Lord Shiva who is extremely dear to Vishnu. His right hand is raised in Abhaya Mudra (assurance or granting fearlessness) and left extends and rests near his waist in Katyavalambita Mudra. His perfect and unique waist is adorned with a powerful Demon like center and 4 ornate belts blend into the classic leg pattern seen on this form historically. The sculpture stands on a solid round pedestal. In order to accommodate a neat round base, this statue does not have the sometimes seen the two upward pointing bars on the pedestal are usually meant to slide over and fit onto a vertical Prabhavali the ornate arch around South Indian statues.
