Garudar
Garuda is a divine eagle-like sun bird and the king of birds. In the Vedic texts he is described as a celestial diva with wings and the personification of courage. The vahana, mount, of Vishnu, Garudar can travel anywhere in the universe at tremendous speed. This one of a kind masterpiece shows Garuda in meditation waiting to answer the command of his master Vishnu. Note the beautiful detail from the top of the crown to the rectangular base. Most impressive is the face which shows both birdlike and human features, as well as the calm courage that is one of his major attributes. Any fancier of Chola Bronze Lost Wax statues would surely love to have this piece grace their collection especially as an addition to their Vishnu alter. Not only is Garuda a major element in the scriptures of the Hindu faith, but he is also a major Dharma Protector to Buddhists and the Yaksha(protector) of the Jain Tirthankara (spiritual teacher) Shantinatha.
