Gopal Krishna
This Young Krishna or “Gopal Khrishna” depicts Krishna as a young teen. This hand crafted Chola Lost Wax Bronze is 21 tall inches and weighs 15kg. Instead of a crown as shown on most Krishna murtis this depiction shows Krishna’s hair in braids on top of his head. Krishna himself is depicted at a younger age and accordingly, his dress is less ordained with jewels and banners. His torso supports the youthful Krishna playing his precious flute adorned with a bell and a yali head. At this age of his life, he was probably walking along the banks of the Yamuna River serenading the farmers’ admiring daughters. The hours and hours of diligent preparation and various stages of hand filing in the statue are shown in a simplicity that pleases and evokes the youthful nature of the “Gopal” Krishna statue. The Octagonal base measures 7 inches across at its widest point and has an upper Lotus leaf shape dome upon which Krishna stands. In line with the one of a kind nature of the Lost Wax Process Bronze, although the depiction of Gopal Krishna is historically accurate to the original statue, the face of this statue is as unique as conceived in the Lost Wax Bronze casting and finishing process.
